to start to cool us down. once that comes onshore we'll notice those temperatures getting much cooler. probably colder as we get towards the end of the week. noon temperature 74 fremont, 84 livermore and 64 in san francisco. >>> let's turn to mike starting off on the nimitz. >> surprise. something going on on the nimitz overnight. we had an accident right around high street. chp has just been notified they need to assist caltrans in picking some of the cones up northbound at 23rd heading through downtown but that means the construction zone there is clearing up. we'll take a look at more construction on the maps, eastbound 580 approaching the interchange, foothill to hacienda, one construction zone blocking two lanes there and another construction zone just as you're heading over towards pleasanton and livermore and more construction heading towards airway. those are picking up before 6:00 a.m. and the commute route westbound and that's not a problem right now. we'll follow the commute as it builds through the east bay. >>> this heat wave turning the commute into a sticky and uncomfor

. >>> but let us begin this morning with that strong storm system that's causing a lot of problems down in florida this morning. the weather channel's jim can torre is in ft. lauderdale. jim, good morning to you. >> reporter: and good morning to you, too, matt. we've already had about 1 to 3 inches of rain. we may see a few rainfall records slip by the wayside. the good news is, so far, that rain has come at a steady enough pace where it hasn't caused too many flooding problems. but that may not be the case this afternoon as the storm gets a little bit closer to us, maybe gets a little more organized. we could see more of that heavy rain move through. and it's really at the time of these rain bands where we get 1 to 2 inches of rain where we could see the street flooding, and that's what officials are telling people. watch out. when that water starts ponding on the roads and these pumps and canals can't handle all this, this is where we'll have tie-ups on a lot of these roadways. so far, so good. it hasn't been a heavy rain event so far that we can't handle it, but as we go on through t

morning, everyone. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm brent cannon. the time is 5:01. we want to check in with jennifer hill and take a look at still a pretty warm day but we're headed to the cooler section now. >> yes, finally we're sliding down and getting some cooler air coming into the region. also some reports of low clouds. yes, some clouds are back and high clouds down around santa cruz. 69 degrees the forecast temperature in oakland, 75 in santa rosa. 83 in fairfield. instead of the 90s happening at noon, they'll happen at 4:00. 94 in livermore, 80 in san rafael. san francisco getting the cooldown early with a 68-degree temperature and 75 in santa cruz. coming up we'll take a look at the weekend outlook. >> that's a pretty big change temperaturewise. we have a change on the roadway not quite so significant but a rolling traffic break starting around the coliseum heading up through downtown and ending by about 23rd, maybe up towards broadway because they're picking up cone zones on the northbound side. southbound side construction likely to pick up the next

." >>> good morning, everybody. thanks for joining us. i'm brent cannon. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. we're headed into another hot one but parts of the bay area catching a little bit of a break. take a live look at the temperatures. 65 degrees at livermore, already heating up ahead of the sun. >> and we have today's heat covered from all angles. christie smith is live at the bart station in oakland where the heat is having a big headache for riders. first jennifer hill has good news on relief from the heat. >> as warm as it is in places like livermore this morning, temperatures are a little cooler than they have been. in fact some fog being reported across the san francisco bridge this morning and thankfully at noon instead of the 90s in the east bay it's going to be in the 80s. 90s inland, 60s for san francisco, 75 in santa cruz. i'll come back with a look at the seven-day forecast and it's looking much better. >> thank you very much, jennifer. well, the heat not only making it miserable outside but for commuters stuck in cars, trains or buses, it can be a rough one, kind of sticky. ch

for us right now. steve? >> reporter: lisa, thanks. good evening. the blown section of the san bruno pipeline is here in washington, the ntsb is in the middle of its investigation. but now the pressure is on pg&e to alter its system immediately. in the hearing here in washington, up on capitol hill today, chris johns, the head of pg&e says he's already lowered the pressure of the natural gas in his pipelines that run through populated areas. he's inviting congress to require big gas lines to be moved out of residential neighborhoods. but a clash came on ougauto mat shutoff valves. senator barbara boxer literally sniffed at that. >> you would agree there would have been a shutoff valve, we would have averted the disaster. >> if there were a remote controlled shutoff valve in there, the gas flow would have stopped faster by the time our people got there. >> reporter: so the challenge is laid down. will pg&e make its very, very expensive upgrades and switch to automatic shutoff valves in all of these high-risk areas. about 3,600 miles of pipeline we're told. and do it immediately. the c
